General Ledger Accountant

Job Summary
Manage the full accounting cycle for HUD entities supporting 200 housing units, preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses. Oversee general ledger accounting across multiple corporate entities, consolidate financial data, and prepare consolidated financial statements and management reports. Coordinate external audits by preparing schedules and resolving findings, while monitoring compliance with GAAP and organizational standards. Drive process-improvement initiatives and mentor junior staff on technical training and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3–5 years of progressive general ledger or financial accounting experience, including monthly and year-end close cycles
- Proficient in US GAAP and FASB standards

- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (i.e. pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
- Demonstrated ownership of account reconciliations for cash, non-cash accounts
- Experience in nonprofit or government-contract accounting, including management of restricted net assets
- Ability to prepare audit‐ready schedules, support internal reviews and external audits
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a continuous‐improvement mindset
- Effective communicator who partners across departments to clarify accounting treatment and streamline processes
- A well organized and self-directed individual who is a team player

Desired Qualifications
- Workday Financial Management - Accounting and General Ledger certification holders
- Preferred large ERP experience (e.g. Workday, Oracle, NetSuite)
- Demonstrated ownership of account reconciliations for cash, non-cash accounts
- Experience in nonprofit or government-contract accounting, including management of restricted net assets
