Job Summary
Prepare and post accurate journal entries in accordance with GAAP, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts. Complete month-end and year-end closing activities, reconcile balance sheet accounts including cash and fixed assets, and monitor daily cash transactions. Prepare monthly financial reports for stakeholders and support state financial reporting within eFinance, annual audits, and federal compliance filings such as IRS Form 990. Collaborate with Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Grants teams to ensure proper account coding and assist with accounting system enhancements. Bachelor's degree in Accounting required with four years of experience; salary range $50,000–$75,000. Hybrid work in Tucson, AZ for Arizona residents only.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting experience
- Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis
- Experience utilizing ERP systems
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while working independently and collaboratively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
- Hybrid work environment for Arizona residents
- Ability to work additional hours during month-end, year-end close, and audit periods
Desired Qualifications
- Understanding of fund accounting principles; nonprofit or educational accounting experience preferred
- Workday experience
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or active pursuit of CPA certification
- Experience working in nonprofit organizations, charter schools, or educational institutions
- Knowledge of state financial reporting requirements and grant accounting
