Job Summary
General Labor role on 2nd shift in Valmont’s Coatings Division (Sioux City, IA) responsible for preparing products and materials for galvanizing by hanging angle on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and preparing small parts for galvanizing. Responsibilities include inspecting and ensuring safe use of production fixtures, hand-wiring parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing, moving steel pieces, paddling to enhance zinc coating quality, using air/electric tools to prep/cleanup steel, and assisting with general plant housekeeping. Requires ability to read and follow instructions, read a tape measure, communicate issues to supervision, lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, wear PPE, and maintain safety. Prior galvanizing and hand-tool/bridge-crane experience are highly preferred. Shift is 2nd shift (3:00 pm–11:30 pm) with a shift differential. Required Qualifications
- The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
- The ability to accurately read a tape measure
- The ability to communicate problems or needs to departmental supervision
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground to shoulder height or higher
- Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time (length of shift) in open air environment; wear PPE; maintain safe work environment
- Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
- Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
- Six months of previous experience in a galvanizing position (preferred)
- Six months of previous experience with hand tools and gauges including impact wrenches, air grinders, drills, taps, oxygen acetylene torches, and mill gauges (preferred)
- Six months of previous experience operating a bridge crane (preferred)
- Certification of heavy equipment operation including forklift (preferred)
