Job Summary
Complete customer-generated work order tickets for building repairs, minor renovations, and equipment maintenance including washers, dryers, dishwashers, heaters, and swamp coolers. Perform preventative maintenance on fencing, paths, retaining walls, and site cleanup while installing and repairing drywall, wood, metal, concrete, and FRP. Operate hand and portable power tools, vehicles, and mobile construction equipment safely, including welding and fabricating tasks. Maintain a safe workplace by modeling safe work practices and communicating about hazards. Work independently or under supervision to improve and maintain sanctuary grounds and facilities.
Required Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials, and practices used in construction and maintenance
- Ability to learn to operate a variety of hand and portable power tools, vehicles, and mobile construction and maintenance equipment skillfully and safely
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions; read and interpret maps, diagrams, and equipment operations manuals, maintain records; make basic arithmetic calculations
- Work with a positive outlook, upbeat, and takes initiative
- Ability to accommodate changes in work priorities and/or scheduling
- Collaborative nature and willingness to work with various colleagues
- Willingness to learn on the job is a must
- Valid driver's license for at least 3 years
- ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance
- The ability to perform physical work requiring coordination, agility, strength, and stamina
- Heavy lifting, (typically up to 80 pounds)
- prolonged periods of standing, stooping, reaching, crawling, and climbing, and manual dexterity
- Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
- Daily exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status
- Applicants for employment in the U.S. must have valid work authorization that does not now and/or will not in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S. by Best Friends Animal Society
Desired Qualifications
