Job Summary
Laborer performs general housekeeping, metal processing, upgrading, and assisting technical workers in a scrap metal yard; duties include unloading pallets, material handling, sorting, unpacking boxes, dismantling small equipment, operating recycling equipment (metal shears, band saw, wire strippers), directing yard traffic, light maintenance, and maintaining a clean, safe work area. Emphasis on learning new skills on the job, progressing to more technical tasks, and working in all weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Must pass medical physical
- Must pass drug test
- Must pass background check
- Preferred – high school diploma or GED
- Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively; understand direction; basic math skills
- Willingness to learn metal sorting, color/shape/weight identification, PPE usage
