Job Summary
BASIC FUNCTION: Para educator provides instructional or direct/indirect services to children, youth, and/or their guardians, contributing to a safe and positive teaching/learning environment. Functions include classroom assistance under licensed staff, supervision of students in various settings, supporting students with special needs (including IEPs/504 plans) and English Language Learners, assisting with activities of daily living, and performing related office/Media tasks. Duties emphasize preparing instructional materials, correcting student work, tracking progress, supervising activities (lunchrooms, playgrounds, study halls, bus travel, field trips), assisting with dietary/hygiene needs, and supporting building operations. Required attributes include effective oral/written communication, confidentiality, organization, tact, empathy, de-escalation, collaboration with adults and students, and professional judgment. Qualifications note the typical requirement for a high school diploma or equivalent; professional CDA and/or postsecondary education (associate’s degree or higher) may be required in certain circumstances as per state or federal regulations.
