Job Summary
Lead Waymark's legal function and serve as a core executive advisor to the CEO and Board on legal, regulatory, and strategic matters. Oversee corporate legal, commercial contracting, and the development of scalable processes as the company grows. Design and implement a comprehensive compliance program addressing HIPAA, fraud, waste, and abuse, and Stark Law. Own the privacy program and partner with technology teams on cybersecurity policy, incident response, and vendor risk management. Establish enterprise risk management protocols to proactively identify and mitigate legal and operational risks. Provide practical legal guidance to stakeholders across the business under short timelines and amid ambiguity.
Required Qualifications
- Must be admitted to the bar and in good standing, or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., registered in-house status), in the state where the position is located.
- 15+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house leadership experience, ideally within healthcare, health tech, or another regulated industry.
- Demonstrated experience building and leading a legal function—including compliance and privacy programs—from the ground up.
- Proven experience advising C-suite executives and/or a Board of Directors on strategic, legal, and risk matters.
- Experience managing and developing legal and compliance team members.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience serving as General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer at a healthcare or health tech company.
- Deep understanding of Medicaid programs, managed care organizations (MCOs), and public health frameworks.
- Experience overseeing cybersecurity or information security programs within a technology company.
- Experience supporting capital raises, board governance, and equity administration at a venture-backed company.
- Ability to build legal, compliance, and security infrastructure from scratch in a fast-paced, scaling organization.
- Passionate about improving healthcare for underserved communities.
