Job Summary
General Counsel to Terros Health will serve as the organization’s chief legal advisor, providing strategic and operational legal guidance across healthcare operations, behavioral health services, regulatory compliance, risk management, governance, and corporate transactions. The role involves partnering with executive leadership, clinical leaders, and external stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and mitigate organizational risk, including patient-related matters, court-ordered treatment processes (e.g., Title 36), and regulatory oversight.Responsibilities include offering practical, business-oriented legal guidance across departments (operations, compliance, HR, clinical teams), guiding organizational strategy and long-term growth, interpreting federal, state, and local healthcare laws, supporting privacy compliance, advising on licensing, board matters, and patient-related risk, coordinating with risk management, managing litigation and outside counsel, advising on reporting to regulators and insurers, providing legal support for court-ordered treatment processes, reviewing and drafting contracts and partnerships, leading due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, managing vendor and payer agreements, coordinating external relationships and testimony, and building a high-performing in-house legal team with strong leadership and mentorship. The position is based in Phoenix, AZ, with a comprehensive benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- JD required
- Active membership in the State Bar of Arizona
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant legal experience (healthcare, nonprofit, and/or regulatory environment strongly preferred)
- In-house counsel or General Counsel experience preferred
- Experience supporting nonprofit organizations or federally funded programs, preferred
- Strong legal judgment and risk assessment skills
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder influence abilities
- Ability to balance legal risk with operational needs in a mission-driven environment
- Strategic thinking with practical execution
- Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local laws and evolving regulatory landscapes
- Strong contract review and drafting skills
- Must have a valid Arizona driver’s license and meet driving policy requirements
- Must successfully pass TB screening and criminal background check
- Must have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card or apply for one within 7 working days of role
