Job Summary
General Counsel at a fully remote company leads all legal, compliance, and regulatory matters with a focus on healthcare (payer or provider environments). Key responsibilities include drafting, negotiating, and managing client services, vendor, and partnership contracts; establishing contract lifecycle management; leading regulatory/compliance programs (HIPAA and healthcare laws); governance duties including board materials, minutes, and corporate-secretary functions; managing investor communications; overseeing IP matters (patents, trademarks, licensing); partnering with Sales, HR, Finance, Product, and Operations; and advising across business units on employment law and risk. Requires JD with active bar, 5+ years in law (in-house and/or firm), healthcare contracting experience, and strong communication and advisory skills; startup or high-growth experience preferred. Fully remote role with base compensation up to $200,000 plus equity.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar admission in good standing
- 5+ years of legal experience; combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred
- Healthcare industry experience required, including exposure to payer or provider environments; familiarity with HIPAA, healthcare contracting, and applicable state and federal regulations is essential
- Demonstrated expertise in commercial contracting, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance
- Experience advising Boards of Directors and serving in a Corporate Secretary capacity is a plus
- Proven ability to manage outside counsel relationships effectively and cost-efficiently
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical, actionable guidance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization
- Start-up or high-growth company experience preferred
