Job Summary
General Counsel - Exempt for the Buffalo Board of Education. Provides legal advice and counsel to the Superintendent of Schools and executive staff, principals, and the Board of Education; prepares memoranda on district policies and procedures; represents the District before administrative agencies or in court; develops systems to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies; ensures that legal counsel roles align with district operations; conducts legal research and advises on policy implications; manages disciplinary proceedings and student rights matters under federal and state laws; negotiates and drafts legal documents with outside parties; initiates and presents arguments in judicial and administrative proceedings.
Required Qualifications
- Five years of full-time experience in the practice of education and/or public employment/labor law, after graduation from a recognized Law School
- Juris Doctor Degree from a recognized Law School
- Current license to practice law in New York State or eligible for license in New York State
- Admission to practice law in any United States District Court
Additional Requirements
- Must be a resident of the City of Buffalo
