General Cleaner responsibilities include cleaning building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming; gathering and emptying trash; cleaning and supplying restrooms; polishing furniture and fixtures; cleaning windows, mirrors, and glass partitions; dusting furniture, walls, machines, and equipment; preparing cleaning solutions from detergents or acids; steam-cleaning or shampooing carpets; stripping, sealing, finishing, and polishing floors; cleaning laboratory equipment with appropriate solvents; following chemical safety procedures; monitoring security by locking doors after hours and ensuring safe electrical use; moving heavy furniture and supplies; reporting major repairs; snow removal from walkways; requisitioning supplies; setting up decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding for events; and accommodating flexible hours including weekends and holidays with possible facility transfers.
