Job Summary
Conduct daily cleaning activities in assigned buildings, including high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and vacuuming floors using treated equipment. Perform bathroom cleaning by wiping sinks, toilets, and dispensers, while emptying and wiping trash cans. Manage grounds care by cleaning sidewalks, ash urns, and public areas, and sanitize food court tables and trays. Spot clean windows, remove gum, and check corners for cobwebs throughout the shift. Review work visually to ensure furniture placement and cleanliness standards, reporting broken items to a supervisor. Maintain a quiet, neat personal appearance and courteous demeanor while operating janitorial equipment. Perform other duties as assigned, such as floor stripping and carpet extraction.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work
- Knowledge of basic methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial work
- Knowledge of basic safe work practices
- Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets)
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors
- Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment
- Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals
- Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities
- Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment
- Ability to lift/carry 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash
- Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes
- Ability to bend/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift
- Ability to kneel/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves
- Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment
- Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout shift
- Ability to sight in performing cleaning tasks and maintain safety standards
- Ability to require depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use
