Job Summary
General Assignment Photographer responsible for covering local news across diverse topics, operating camera, sound, lighting, editing equipment, LiveU/Dejero live packs and live trucks, and collaborating with assignment desks, reporters, anchors, and other teams. Responsibilities include breaking news response, high-quality video capture with natural sound, proficient lighting and cinematography, nonlinear editing (Edius, Adobe CC), and storytelling excellence as part of NPPA-style story builds. The role requires adherence to NBC safety standards, strong visual storytelling for daily news and investigative/special projects, and the ability to work under tight deadlines, with flexibility for nights, weekends, and travel within the market. Desired skills include broadcast journalism production expertise, proficiency with Sony workflow, ENG operations, and graphic-building/animation capabilities. Minimum five years of field photography experience in news, in addition to three–five years in a top ten market, and the ability to operate heavy equipment and live-truck systems in various weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in News Camera/Field Photography
- 3-5 years of experience in a top ten market
- Must adhere to Environmental Health & Safety standards and regulations
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds of equipment
- Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours in breaking news situations
- Must be able to travel throughout the TV market and occasionally beyond
- Must be proficient with Edius edit v.9 or newer and newer
- Must be proficient in Sony workflow
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Degree in Broadcast Journalism/Production
