Job Summary
Support GEAR UP Program Coordinators and Student Success Coaches by implementing services for high school students to explore colleges and careers. Conduct individual and group mentoring sessions to check academic progress, identify strengths, and make referrals to enrichment services. Assist with planning major events like College & Career Fairs and Campus Visits, while maintaining student files and conducting data entry in the student information system. Work part-time, 12-15 hours weekly between 8 am and 4 pm, serving the Centinela Valley Union High School District.
Required Qualifications
- Be an undergraduate student at CSUDH or another local college/university
- Maintain good academic standing (+2.5 cumulative GPA)
- At least one year of experience working with high school students from underserved and underrepresented communities
- Knowledge of higher education college systems and financial aid
- Experience providing workshops about college options, admissions requirements, and application procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be reliable and punctual
- Must be able to handle confidential information with discretion
- Must pass LiveScan fingerprinting provided by the program
- Must have reliable transportation
- If hired, candidates must provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States
- This position is classified as a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act
- All candidates must pass a background check, including a criminal records check
