Job Summary
Operate CNC Gleason gear generating equipment to manufacture precision gears per engineering drawings and shop floor documentation while maintaining quality standards. Install and true cutting tools, verify machine offsets, and perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments. Monitor tool wear, adjust parameters, and record production data in the shop scheduling system. Follow all safety requirements, maintain coolant and lubrication levels, and participate in continuous improvement activities. Requires standing up to 12 hours daily, lifting 50 lbs, and working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and metal chips.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be able to stand for up to 12 hours per day
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
- Ability to distinguish fine visual details necessary for inspecting gear tooth profiles, surface finish, and dimensional characteristics
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, metal chips, cutting fluids, and varying temperatures while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Thorough knowledge of blueprint and gear drawing interpretation
- Gear terminology
- Use of precision measuring equipment
- General understanding of CNC machine programming and operation
- Familiarity with gear cutting principles
- Familiarity with tooling
- Familiarity with machine setup
- Familiarity with inspection methods
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Knowledge of gear inspection equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Machining certificate from a reputable trade school
- Demonstrated experience operating CNC gear generating equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with Gleason gear generators
- Experience with gear manufacturing processes
