Job Summary
Provide individualized employability skills training and supports to Project Gateway interns at host businesses, including coaching, building natural supports, and implementing reasonable accommodations. Conduct travel training and assist in interview processes to prepare students for competitive, integrated employment. Work with instructors and mentors to assess progress, develop internship sites, and create task analyses while modeling appropriate workplace behavior. Teach safe practices, disability awareness, and self-management skills to promote intern independence and successful transition to community jobs.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree
- 2 years' experience
- combination of education and relevant experience to equal 4 years
- Knowledge of information and techniques needed to provide job coaching supports to Project Gateway interns
- Knowledge of appropriate job accommodations
- Assurance and support for safety and security of the employee
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, precautions, prevention, and the protection of people, data, and property as required by the employer
- Knowledge of diversity and inclusion best practice
- Ability to support inclusive employment
- No felony conviction
- No founded dependent child or adult abuse record
- Completion of health requirements
- Completion of immunizations
- Completion of drug test
- Completion of employee orientation of Waterloo Schools
- Ability to identify student intern's strengths, interests and abilities related to job skill acquisition and preparation for employment
- Ability to use job coaching techniques to promote the intern's job skill development
- Ability to provide effective job skills training, travel training and transition support services
- Ability to provide guidance and training including appropriate job accommodations
- Ability to identify, create and implement reasonable accommodations
- Ability to use assistive technology
- Ability to assist in interview training process for interns
- Ability to communicate to make decisions regarding any issues that may affect an intern's success at a worksite or competitive place of employment
- Ability to communicate with all team members about job opportunities
- Ability to provide feedback
- Ability to discuss issues and problem solve obstacles affecting intern's performance
- Ability to determine new job tasks as intern gains competencies and confidence
- Ability to label cabinets
- Ability to simplify written instructions
- Ability to teach safe practices according to the work environment and business requirements
- Ability to model appropriate workplace behavior
- Ability to provide positive feedback techniques with interns, colleagues and other staff
- Ability to assist intern to understand and interpret work culture
