Job Summary
Gas Mig Steel Welder II role in a manufacturing setting focusing on welding and grinding of skids, tanks, SCR stands, and cable trays, using GMAW/MIG processes, reading blueprints, interpreting weld symbols, and performing various cuts and machine setups with safety as a priority. Requires 3+ years of welding experience, ability to pass GMAW tests, proficient use of oxyfuel/plasma torches, reading tapes and gauges, crane/forklift certification, and capability to work independently or with a team in an on-site manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include fabricating to spec from engineering drawings, maintaining equipment, and adhering to quality and safety procedures. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for long periods, with work environment potentially indoors or outdoors and variable weather as applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of welding experience for level II
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and apply a WPS
- Capable of passing a steel plate GMAW fillet visual test in the 2F position, 1G GMAW test
- Must be able to set up oxyfuel and plasma torch; able to make clean square cuts, straight cuts, beveled cuts, and wash welds
- Follow and advise on all safety procedures
- Advanced ability to comprehend and interpret sketches / blueprints
- Skilled in the safe and correct use of all hand tools
- Certified in the use of all overhead cranes and fork trucks
- Accurately read a tape measure and other measuring devices such as pressure gauges, fillet weld gauges, and levels
- Must have track record of consistent and timely attendance
- Ability to cooperate with a team and take directions from supervisors as well as other peers and level III welders
- Capable of operating the band saw, ironworkers, bench grinder, and port-a-band
- Must be competent enough to determine if their own work is complete and correct as specified by instructions, drawings and specifications
- Work independently or cooperatively with little hands-on instructions
- Must have a solid understanding of weld joints and weld symbols
- Ability to interpret blueprints / engineering sketches and correctly assemble them
- Must be able to perform routine machine maintenance and trouble shoot issues
- Ability to operate welder and replace gas cylinder or other parts
- Ability to use hand and power tools

- The welder will reference engineering documents to guide them in the building of structures and the fabrication of parts
- Physical Demands and Work Environment: Must be able to lift 50lbs, manipulate heavy test equipment, and cables
- Manual dexterity to operate digital equipment, including computers and PLC’s, protective relays, controllers, and other such equipment with small fine buttons and operators
- Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time on the manufacturing floor throughout the day
- The work environment associated with this role can take place either indoors or outdoors depending on the nature of the project
