Job Summary
Use locating equipment to determine the location of gas lines in a designated area and mark the area with paint and flags to prevent damage to utility infrastructure. Perform some hand digging to unearth gas lines as required. Develop knowledge of underground utility infrastructure while following all company, client, state, and federal damage prevention guidelines. Operate independently in the field using a company-provided vehicle and best-in-class ticket management systems. This daytime, full-time role requires ability to travel locally, work overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call rotations including nights. Candidates must hold a valid driver's license, pass a drug screen, and be able to lift up to 75 lbs. As part of the Advanced Gas Operations division, technicians may locate other utilities depending on project assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed
- Ability to travel locally during the business day; some out-of-area or overnight travel may be expected
- Able to pass a drug screen
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
- Able to stand and walk for long periods of time on varying types of terrain; bend and stoop; lift heavy items up to 75 lbs
- Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
- Proficiency with technology
- Able to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints
- Possess basic math skill to calculate distances
- Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners
Desired Qualifications
- Previous outdoor experience is a plus
- Customer service experience is a plus
- No prior locating experience is needed, but previous industry experience is a plus and will be considered when determining starting pay
