Job Summary
Operate the "Reverbatory" furnace according to standard operating procedures to maintain quality, optimum production, and safety. Charge and puddle material as prescribed by approved metallurgical practice, including mixing, circulating, fluxing, skimming, and taking temperatures. Coordinate with supervisory personnel to ensure proper alloying of heat and check burner controls to maintain prescribed temperatures throughout the heat. Pour samples for quality inspection at prescribed intervals and maintain adequate supplies of tools, flux, and necessary materials. Keep areas, building, furnace, tools, and equipment clean and in efficient operating condition while ensuring safety equipment and personal protective equipment are available and worn. Maintain records in written reports detailing materials charged during the shift.
Required Qualifications
- Six months of experience in manufacturing
- Six months of experience of forklift or skid loader
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
