Job Summary
Learns how to provide exemplary personalized and professional service as a Funeral Director Apprentice. Responsibilities include arranging and conducting funeral and memorial ceremonies, negotiating and creating funeral contracts, handling legal documents, verifying identification of the deceased, and ensuring compliance with company policies. Requires compassion, integrity, good communication, and problem-solving skills. A high school diploma is required along with ongoing education in mortuary science and at least 6 months of relevant experience. Employment includes physical demands such as standing for long periods and some local travel.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or general equivalency degree
- Typically requires a minimum of 6 months experience in a funeral home, crematory or cemetery
- Must meet all licensing requirement in applicable state/province as required by law as prescribed by each state board
- Valid driver’s license
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of or currently enrolled in a degree training program at an accredited mortuary college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science
- Knowledge of computers and some software including MS Office products
