Job Summary
Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans through the ARD Committee process and implement tailored instructional programs. Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning styles and achievement, then adapt curricula and use varied instructional techniques to meet individual needs. Manage student behavior, administer discipline, and provide personal care, medical care, and feeding as required by IEPs. Create a conducive learning environment, supervise instructional aides, and maintain open communication with parents, teachers, and district resource personnel. Compile all required reports, attend faculty meetings, and comply with federal, state, and district regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignment
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
- Effective communication skills
- Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
- May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more)
- Control behavior through physical restraint
- Assist nonambulatory students
- Lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment
