Job Summary
Support a Special Education teacher as a Classroom Instructional Assistant in a self-contained classroom. Responsibilities include providing one-on-one or small group academic, organizational, and communication support; assisting with daily living activities and safety; implementing behavior management strategies per IEPs; supporting inclusion into general education activities; using assistive technology tools; collaborating with teachers to prepare materials and adapt curriculum; collecting data on student progress for IEP reports; maintaining open communication with teachers and specialists; participating in professional development; and performing related duties. Requires physical ability to assist students, manage behaviors, and be present for the school calendar (181 days) with 7-hour days; starting pay $16.05/hour.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED is required
- An Associate's degree or higher, or at least sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited institution is preferred
- Must have at least an associate's degree or two years of college or passed the ParaPro Assessment
- Official transcripts required to validate education
- Must meet requirements of a paraprofessional as outlined in ESSA
- Pass Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded Child Protection Index Check
- Ability to follow IEPs and adapt instructional strategies accordingly
- Ability to physically assist students with mobility and personal care needs if necessary
- Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills
