Job Summary
Sweep, scrub, mop, and vacuum classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, and gymnasiums to maintain clean, orderly, and secure school facilities. Operate cleaning equipment including vacuums, floor strippers, carpet shampooers, and power blowers to remove debris, spot clean spills, and perform minor non-technical repairs. Clean drinking fountains, disinfect restrooms, wash windows, dust woodwork, and arrange furniture for special events. Monitor gym events for orderly behavior, report safety and fire hazards, and maintain security by locking doors, turning alarms on and off, and reporting suspicious individuals. Order supplies, pack and unpack materials, and perform heavy physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs and shoveling snow. Work flexible hours including weekends to cover special events while adhering to district safety procedures and maintenance logs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, G.E.D. certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by State law.
- Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites.
- Basic methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial work and routine maintenance.
- Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
- Proper lifting technique.
- Communication skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Safety requirements and procedures.
- Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
- Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
- Technical aspects of field of specialty.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, to cover special events to meet the needs of the school.
- Demonstrates loyalty and dedication to the purposes and goals of the Daviess County Public Schools.
