Job Summary
Sign language interpreter in a school setting to facilitate communication among students with hearing impairments, peers, and staff. Responsibilities include interpreting using Signed Exact English or ASL, participating in IEP/MDT meetings, collaborating with teachers and staff, providing classroom support and supervision, supporting audio systems, interpreting for extracurricular activities, assisting with IEP-driven accommodations, providing tutoring/notetaking when needed, maintaining certification (EIPA or equivalent) as designated by the Nebraska Department of Education Rule 51, pursuing ongoing professional development, and traveling to district buildings/meetings as required.
Required Qualifications
- Certification: Valid Nebraska drivers license or ability to provide own transportation for district-related events
- Competency in manual communication as defined by the Nebraska Department of Education, Rule 51
- Education: Post secondary training in manual communication (required)
- Bachelor's degree in Deaf education and/or manual communication (preferred)
- Experience: Successful prior experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing children (preferred)
- FLSA Status: Non-exempt
