Job Summary
The Personal Care Assistant/1:1 Paraeducator supports a student with instructional, behavioral and personal care needs under the guidance of a classroom teacher and program supervisor. Responsibilities include implementing the student's IEP, providing 1:1 instructional and behavioral assistance, and maintaining required documentation. Position is for the school year (6.50 hours/day, Monday–Friday, 185 days/year) with a status of Full Time. Requires ability to lift and assist with students ranging from pre-school to age 21, potential for physical intervention using CPI/SCM/QBS methods, and readiness to undergo training. Education requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; qualifications may include the Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators, 48 college credits, an associate degree or higher, or equivalent demonstrated assessment, plus annual staff development hours. Certifications in CPI, Safe Crisis Management, or Safety-Care Crisis Prevention are required as directed. Location is Penn Manor Martic Elementary (PA, USA).
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
- Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators through the PA Department of Education (or willing to complete within 6 months) with credential copy due within 30 days of hire
- At least 2 years of postsecondary study with minimum 48 credit hours (transcript due within 30 days) OR possess an associate degree or higher OR meet an approved assessment standard within 6 months of employment
- Evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to position each school year (pro-rata based on hire date)
- Verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions
- Computer skills: basic data entry, internet/email usage, word processing and spreadsheets
- CPI, SCM or QBS Safety-Care Crisis Prevention certification as directed by program needs
