Job Summary

Implement instructional plans, accommodations, and modifications for assigned students under the direction of certified special education staff. Support students during individual, small-group, and whole-class instruction while adapting classroom materials to meet individual needs. Assist with daily living tasks, supervise students within the school building, on school grounds, and during field trips or community-based settings. Collect and document data related to student academic, behavioral, and functional goals, and participate in student team meetings as assigned. Provide assistance with personal care, mobility, and the appropriate use of technology when required by a student's educational program. Maintain student confidentiality and adhere to all applicable school, district, state, and federal requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer and digital literacy skills
  • Experience with word processing, email, and online productivity platforms
  • Ability to understand and carry out written, verbal, and demonstrated instructions
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and common sense when responding to routine and unexpected situations
  • Ability to remain calm, follow established procedures, and seek appropriate assistance during emergencies or challenging situations
  • Ability to actively supervise and support students throughout the school day and in a variety of school and community settings
  • Ability to provide physical assistance to students when required by their individualized needs and educational programming
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting student privacy
  • Commitment to inclusive educational practices and respect for individual differences
  • Willingness to participate in required training, meetings, professional development, and other school-related activities that may occur outside the regular student day, including in-service days or summer training when applicable
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, flexibility, and a commitment to being an active member of the school community

Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant postsecondary education, training, or experience working with children or adolescents
  • Previous experience working in a school, special education program, youth-serving organization, or related setting
  • An understanding of child and adolescent development, classroom routines, and instructional practices
  • Strong foundational reading, writing, and mathematics skills
  • Ability to understand and support academic content being taught to students
  • Ability to follow instructional plans and provide appropriate academic assistance under the direction of certified staff
  • Ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally with students, colleagues, administrators, families, and representatives of outside organizations
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, respect, empathy, and compassion
  • Ability to respond constructively to challenging situations, resolve conflicts appropriately, and manage stress in a professional manner
  • Experience with Google Workspace for Education, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, and related applications
