Job Summary

Conduct peri-operative patient care for adults and geriatric patients requiring surgical intervention, managing pre-operative assessments, informed consent, and post-operative discharge planning. Supervise ancillary staff in pre- and post-operative areas while adhering to strict staffing schedules and on-call rotations. Direct clinical operations to ensure cost-effective, safe care through participation in performance improvement initiatives, risk management, and benchmarking programs. Maintain accurate medical documentation and collaborate with physicians and leadership on service line development and marketing initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing with current and valid licensure with Texas State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse
  • BLS & ACLS required or obtained within 30 days of hire
  • PALS certification required within 60 days of hire
  • 2 years of nursing experience required in ICU/Emergency Room/Recovery Room or other critical care-nursing environment
  • Is aware of professional nursing standard and performs in accordance with them
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
  • Knowledge of state, federal and accrediting body regulations and standards related to healthcare
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Demonstrates ability to comprehend written and oral instructions
  • Must be computer literate with basic fundamental computer skills that are required to perform essential job related duties
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to review daily schedule and prepare patient care areas based upon types of procedures and specific patient care needs
  • Must be able to communicate changes in status as necessary to physicians, family members, and other staff
  • Must be able to initiate physical and psycho/social assessment and pre-operative plan of care

  • Must be able to complete and document a pre-operative interview

  • Must be able to assure all patients have met the discharge criteria prior to discharge
  • Must be able to provide all patients post-operative instructions
  • Must be able to assure the delivery of quality clinical care through participation in SP benchmarking programs
  • Must be able to assure facility clinical policies and procedures are followed
  • Must be able to maintain a safe clinical environment
  • Must be able to adhere to all patient care safety requirements
  • Must be able to review and participate in performance improvement initiatives
  • Must be able to maintain accurate and legible medical record documentation in accordance with federal and accrediting standards
  • Must be able to participate in quality improvement activities
  • Must be able to conserve resources and minimize cost when possible
  • Must be able to participate and assist with implementation of cost saving initiatives for the department
  • Must be able to communicate ideas for cost containment and reducing expense

  • Must be able to communicate service line development ideas with facility leadership

  • Must be able to work under the supervision of the PeriAnesthesia Director
  • Must be able to provide peri-operative patient case in accordance with sound nursing judgment, regulatory and accreditation standards, and the facility's mission, vision, and values
  • Must be able to provide direct and indirect patient care across the age continuum
  • Must be able to utilize the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation according to policies and procedures of the facility
  • Must be able to adhere to staffing schedule
  • Must be able to assist with administrative tasks related to Risk Management, Employee Health, Infection Control, Performance Improvement, and Clinical Recruitment/Retention
  • Must be able to assist with development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Must be able to set priorities, respond timely to issues, which require a decision, and ensure desired results are achieved by means of consistent follow through
