Job Summary

Operate a variety of vehicles, machines, and equipment including snowplows, front-end loaders, and utility trucks to perform routine maintenance and repairs on streets, parks, and City facilities. Execute street maintenance tasks such as snow plowing, concrete work, and roadway marking, while managing grounds maintenance like mowing, pruning, and tree removal. Set up work zones, remove trash, and assemble playground equipment as needed. Direct part-time and seasonal personnel, maintain proper records, and order materials. Requires a valid Ohio Class 'A' CDL with airbrake and tanker endorsements, ability to work various shifts, and physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds. Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by some experience in routine maintenance, or any combination of training and experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to meet Operator I core training requirements in relevant division within specified timeline per the City of Beavercreek Training and Reclassification Policy and Training Matrix.
  • Must maintain a valid Ohio Driver License.
  • Must maintain a valid Ohio Class 'A' Commercial Driver License with airbrake and tanker endorsements. This license must be obtained within three (3) months of hire date.
  • Ability to work other than normal working hours and to work various shifts as necessary.
  • Must be in good physical condition, i.e., able to pass all required physical exams and drug testing as required by the State of Ohio and/or City of Beavercreek.
  • Ability to grasp, lift, and maneuver hand tools, power tools, equipment, and materials of various weights and sizes, in a manner which is safe and effective in the performance of work.
  • Ability to perform physical functions, including lifting objects, equipment, furniture, supplies, and materials (weighing up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to climb, bend, balance, and traverse rough ground, including under varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for an extended period of time in all conditions.

Desired Qualifications

  • General knowledge of the operations and maintenance of job-related vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • General knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to drive a truck, with or without a trailer.
  • Ability to understand and communicate instructions, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read and understand basic written instructions, material and equipment labels, and hazard and warning notices.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to establish a safe work zone.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Ability to complete basic reports and checklists.
  • Ability to work under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, Section Leader, Operator III, and Operator II.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with City officials, other City employees, and the general public.
