Job Summary
Support individuals with dual sensory impairment in their home and community by using communication techniques to relay information and empowering them to participate in daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and volunteerism. Provide personal care including lifts, transfers, toileting, and medication administration while assisting with developing individual goals and supporting program development. Ensure documentation and records remain complete throughout the support process. This full-time role involves a rotational schedule covering days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Candidates must possess a college diploma in Intervenor for Deafblind Persons or related human services fields, along with ASL or SEE skills, a valid Class G driver's license, and a clean driver's abstract.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a college diploma or certificate in the Intervenor for Deafblind Persons program, or: Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Community Services Worker (CSW), Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA), Personal Support Worker (PSW), Behavioural Science, or a related human services field.
- Experience supporting persons with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviours.
- Experience supporting persons with mental health conditions.
- Communication in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed Exact English (SEE).
- Valid driver's license Class G, access to a reliable vehicle, a clean current driver's abstract and the ability to obtain automobile insurance with a minimum liability of $2 million.
- Employment is conditional upon receipt of a successful Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Ability to lift 35 lbs to 50 lbs on an occasional basis.
- Excellent communication skills for both verbally and written of the English language.
