Job Summary
Support communication and day-to-day living for individuals with dual sensory impairment by assisting in home and community environments. Relay information using communication techniques and empower clients to succeed in personal hygiene, meal preparation, house cleaning, and volunteerism. Provide personal care as required, including lifts, transfers, toileting, and medication administration. Assist with developing individual goals, program development, and ensuring complete documentation and records. Conduct personal care tasks such as toileting and hygiene support while maintaining accurate records. This role supports independent living for those with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors, requiring ASL or SEE skills.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a college diploma or certificate in the Intervenor for Deafblind Persons program, or: Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Community Services Worker (CSW), Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA), Personal Support Worker (PSW), Behavioural Science, or a related human services field.
- Experience supporting persons with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviours.
- Experience supporting persons with mental health conditions.
- Communication in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed Exact English (SEE).
- Valid driver's license Class G, access to a reliable vehicle, a clean current driver's abstract and the ability to obtain automobile insurance with a minimum liability of $2 million.
- Employment is conditional upon receipt of a successful Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- The incumbent must be able to lift 35 lbs to 50 lbs on an occasional basis.
- Excellent communication skills for both verbally and written of the English language.
