Full-Time Fractional Controller for Construction Industry Clients

Job Summary
Conduct financial discovery assessments, process improvements, and accounting clean-ups for high-revenue construction organizations. Manage month-end close schedules across multiple entities, transitioning manual workbooks to automated, system-driven reporting. Lead financial discovery assessments to identify accounting cleanup needs and process improvements for high-revenue (e.g., $170M+) organizations. Manage the interface between client leadership, construction teams, and outsourced tax or accounting firms to ensure accuracy in expense coding. Develop and maintain property-level performance metrics and sophisticated financial modeling suitable for institutional equity partners. Strengthen internal controls over cash management, including the oversight of lien release/waiver tracking to prevent revenue leakage. This role supports the VP of Operations and reports to clients weekly or monthly. We seek a Controller with 8+ years of experience in the Construction and Real Estate Development industries, proficient in Sage Intacct, Procore, and Deltek ComputerEase.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years as a Chief Accounting Officer or Controller in Private Business
- 8+ years of financial software experience
- Sage Intacct
- Quickbooks
- Expertise in construction-specific accounting methods (Percentage of Completion Method/PCM)
- Experience in banking partner evaluation and positioning a company for credit facility or Line of Credit (LOC) eligibility
- Excellent written and verbal communicator
- At least three years of experience in a remote role
- Organized, professional workspace for virtual video meetings
- Daily access to a strong internet connection (minimum 100+ Mbps upload, 30+ Mbps download)
- Occasional after-hours meetings and/or work to meet deadlines
- Business casual dress for virtual video client meetings
- 8+ years of experience as a Controller for growing companies specifically in the Construction and Real Estate Development industries
- Deep expertise in construction financing and the management of bank draws on construction loans
- Experience in managing complex project-level financials, including Work in Progress (WIP) schedules, budget-to-actual job cost performance, and labor allocation
- Cloud-based software expert
- Experience in system migrations (e.g., Foundation to Deltek ComputerEase)
- Proficient in Sage Intacct, Procore, and Bill.com
- Familiar with Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, and other project management tools
- Capability of managing finance and accounting operations across a multi-entity fund structure
- Oversight for outsourced payroll functions across multiple states
- Ownership of month-end close schedules for multiple entities
