Job Summary
Cooks, bakes and prepares balanced and nutritious meals and snacks for patients, Shackley residents, employees and visitors in a hospital setting. Plans weekly menus and any substitutions with the Dietary Manager and Registered Dietician's approval, and prints/sends select menus to patients daily. Ensures temperatures, food sheets and food records are maintained daily; follows HACCP sanitation and safety procedures. Supervises and supports dietary helpers, assists with proper food storage and preparation to prevent illness, and helps deliver patient trays and serve meals. Maintains infection control guidelines and participates in patient care activities potentially involving blood exposure. Maintains environment to governing standards and safety tools, and completes assigned duties including cash/recordkeeping as delegated. Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and two years of food service experience; Basic Life Support certification within six months of hire.
Required Qualifications
- Basic computer skills
- knowledge of math and English as normally acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
- ability to learn basics of therapeutic diets
- two years of food service experience
- Basic Life Support certification via American Heart Association within six months of hire
- ability to work compatibly with hospital personnel
- ability to prioritize daily work and perform under stress in an emergency
- ability to maintain confidentiality
- ability to complete reports and correspondence professionally
- ability to communicate with diverse individuals
- training in standard precaution and transmission protocols
