Job Summary
Build and optimize the primary web application and backend API services for Opiniion's resident engagement platform. Own meaningful product areas with little oversight, writing code, reviewing pull requests, and participating in architectural discussions. Improve performance, security, and efficiency of high-traffic Node.js services while collaborating effectively with the engineering team. Complete necessary DevOps or frontend tasks using Vue, React, or Angular, and leverage AI tools like Claude and Cursor to ship better work. Troubleshoot local Docker issues and CI/CD pipelines within our AWS environment.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong Node.js API skills with experience of owning high-traffic services
- You can demonstrate how your architectural and implementation decisions have improved performance, reduced bugs, and increased reliability
- You have experience independently working in areas such as authentication, caching, and scalability
- Strong SQL database skills
- You understand the tradeoffs between different storage technologies and can explain why you chose one over the other
- You are familiar with execution plans, specialized indexes, and query optimization
- You have redesigned underperforming schemas or queries
- You are willing to develop strong NoSQL skills
- Frontend development skills
- You know Vue, React, or Angular
- You can make independent fixes and improvements while following existing architectural patterns
- Experience with modern development tooling
- You have worked with Docker, GitHub, and AWS
- You understand how services such as ECS, Lambda, IAM, and S3 are used to build production systems
- Experience troubleshooting local docker issues and CICD pipelines
Desired Qualifications
- Experience building property management or review software
- React, Ruby, or MongoDB
