Job Summary
Linguists are sought to support current and future foreign language requirements across YSG/TU with responsibilities including interpretation (in-person and virtual), translation of written/electronic/audio/video materials, document review/editing, and foreign language instruction. The role encompasses a range of language support services for government contracts, with open evergreen postings for multiple roles. Candidates may be considered for various language support positions; CAT I–III proficiency in English and target language, ILR levels 2+ to 3, and security clearances (SECRET or TS/SCI as applicable) are required. Location options include remote CONUS and on-site at Huntsville, AL or Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, with possible travel; ability to work under high pressure, adapt to harsh environments, and collaborate within a professional team is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Category I: ILR level 2+ in English; CAT I linguist may be locally hired, no security clearance required, but security vetting conducted
- CAT II: ILR level 2+ in English; U.S. citizens with security vetting; interim SECRET access possible in some cases
- CAT III: ILR level 3 in English; U.S. citizens with TOP SECRET clearance and SCI access or interim TS with SCI access
- Ability to provide idiomatic translations of nontechnical material between English and foreign language
- Ability to conduct consecutive, accurate translation and interpretation of ongoing conversations and activities
- Familiarity with local culture and customs
- Willingness to live and work in harsh environments and temporary facilities as mission dictates
- Ability to function under high pressure and as part of a professional team
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to government roles and missions
- Fluency in English and foreign language with regionalisms and slang without altering meaning
- Interpretation that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes or omissions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Shall be U.S. citizens or eligible for required security clearances as per CAT category
- Security clearance requirements vary by CAT level
