Fuel Truck Driver/Mechanic

Job Summary

Operate fuel delivery vehicles to load tankers at bulk facilities and dispense fuel to school and activity buses on assigned routes while maintaining accurate records of dispensed fuel and truck inventory. Perform maintenance and repair work under general supervision, including evaluating tire conditions, executing minor sub-assembly checks, replacing oil filters, and performing chassis lubrication. Respond to off-site fuel outages and assist route and shop mechanics with vehicle maintenance. Demonstrate a safety mindset throughout operations to ensure safe buses for students and a secure working environment. Complete the bus class to acquire a CDL B within 90 days of hire and obtain the appropriate North Carolina driver's license.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be aware of and understand pertinent OSHA requirements for fuel spills and clean up procedures
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and machinery including trucks, hydraulic lifts, etc
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Be able to lift and/or carry weights of 50 to 100 pounds
  • Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey
  • Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures
  • Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately
  • Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, equipment and machinery
  • Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving
  • Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, materials and equipment used in the repair and knowledge of the operating principles of engines and of the standard mechanical components of engines
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to prepare and maintain simple records
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
  • Must obtain appropriate North Carolina driver's license for the weight and type of vehicles operated as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles
