Job Summary
Patrol officer with Springfield Park District performing uniform-duty policing in parks, trails, and surrounding areas; duties include patrolling by car, foot, or bicycle, directing traffic during events, responding to incidents, investigating crimes, writing reports, collecting evidence, testifying in court, and engaging with community groups to improve public safety. Requires English proficiency, high school diploma or GED, valid Illinois driver’s license, ability to work independently, physical fitness, and knowledge of criminal/traffic laws and department policies; extensive training in firearms and in-service instruction is required.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED)
- Must possess valid Illinois Driver’s License
- Must be able to read and write English; communicate verbally and in writing in English
- Must be able to work without direct supervision; deal firmly and courteously with the public
- Must be able to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine the proper course of action
- Must be able to react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation
- Must have working knowledge of criminal and traffic law and Department policy
- Must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds and performing required physical tasks
- Must have basic proficiency of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Must live within a 50-mile radius of the specified Springfield, IL location or be willing to move within that radius within 6 months
