Job Summary

Observe, evaluate, and chart patient behaviors, symptoms, and reactions to medications, diet, and the environment. Respond to patient calls and requests while preparing and administering therapies, wound dressings, and breathing treatments. Document care activities, collect lab specimens, and administer medications with awareness of adverse reactions. Collaborate with registered nurses to develop and implement care plans, participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, and interpret treatment approaches. Monitor direct care staff, assist in training, and act as an assistant to the charge nurse when necessary. Work three 12-hour shifts weekly on a two-week block schedule in Day or NOC rotations.

Required Qualifications

  • A current license to practice as a licensed practical nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a licensed practical nurse in Nebraska
  • Knowledge of licensed practical nursing theory and practice
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of patient care and treatments
  • Knowledge of medication and medication administration procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of care and use of medical equipment and supplies
  • Ability to evaluate nursing needs and to exercise competent judgment
  • Ability to evaluate patient behaviors, symptoms, and effects of medications
  • Ability to plan, monitor work of direct care staff
  • Ability to apply proper body mechanics for heavy lifting
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in exact detail
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, charts and reports
  • Ability to maintain a helpful and sympathetic attitude toward patients
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to push/pull occasionally up to 75 lbs. on a daily basis
  • Ability to frequently bend at the waist and neck and frequently twist at the waist and walk or stand up to 90% of the shift
  • Ability to interact with members and others in a positive manner
  • Ability to be flexible to meet changing demands of the job

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in gerontological nursing
