FT Housing Support Worker (Whitehorse, Yukon)

Job Summary
Housing Support Worker in Whitehorse provides on-site support to residents, conducts intakes and care plans, delivers life-skills training, coordinates with service providers, ensures safety and confidentiality, acts as on-site advocate, assists with transportation and meals, participates in program activities, maintains and reports on resident progress, and supports crisis intervention. Requires a Diploma or Certificate in a relevant field with one year of related experience, counselling experience, First Aid/CPR/Naloxone, Food Safe Level 1, vulnerable sector check, and the ability to work in a unionized residential setting. 40 hours per week with night shifts (23:30–07:30). 40-hour/week schedule, in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. Required Qualifications
- Graduate with a Diploma or Certificate in relevant field with one year of related experience that includes case/care plan development and implementation.
- Counselling/lay counselling experience in the appropriate field and demonstrate a clear ability to respond well in crisis situations.
- Demonstrated experience in an applicable residential setting and good working knowledge of the technical details important to the functioning of group residences.
- Extensive knowledge of community resources.
- Understanding of harm reduction, housing-focused supports & trauma informed approaches.
- Demonstrated the ability to teach skills and work effectively with others.
- Demonstrated ability to develop programs tailored to the diverse needs of the individual.
- Knowledge of theory, principles and practices in the fields related to the particular residence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate recognized by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
- Current Food Safe Level 1 certificate.
- Ability to successfully complete a vulnerable sector check.
- Ability to successfully pass a reference check.
