Job Summary
Bridge Indigenous residents with culturally specific community supports and advocate for their access and rights. Develop and implement short-term, issue-specific intervention plans within program guidelines while navigating person-centered Indigenous work strategies. Guide families and youth through cultural activities like healing circles and smudges to promote spiritual healing, and assist residents with daily life skills, social skills, and behavior management. Accompany clients to appointments and leisure activities, recognize emergency situations, and facilitate physical, recreational, and vocational programs. Maintain accurate records, prepare annual reports, and participate in team meetings to ensure quality service continuity. Work directly with social workers, government agencies, and First Nations providers to inform individual support plans consistent with harm reduction principles.
Required Qualifications
- Graduated with a Diploma in a social service or human services field
- 1 year of related experience
- Experience working with First Nation communities
- Knowledge of Harm reduction principles
- Willingness to implement harm reduction principles in a practical environment
- Experience with clients with a history of conflict with the law
- Experience with clients with developmental disabilities
- Experience with clients with spectrum disorders
- Experience with clients experiencing homelessness
- Experience with interaction with social agencies
- Experience with clients experiencing mental health challenges
- A demonstrated and clear ability to respond well in crisis situations
- An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities
- An ability to deal with potential violence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- BC Class 5 driver's license
- Personal transportation that is in good repair
- Personal transportation insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability
- Personal transportation capable of transporting residents
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
- Must observe weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa
- Must provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role
