Job Summary
Perform laboratory testing for pH, solids/moisture, sodium, and microbiology including basic plating in a clean room environment. Execute destructive aseptic package evaluation procedures and incubation activities per standard operating procedures. Assist with product spoilage investigations and troubleshoot basic to moderate operating difficulties involving area equipment. Maintain laboratory equipment calibrations, prepare all paperwork, and ensure a clean workstation. Collect and communicate lab data with Quality Supervisor and Operations Shift Leaders while reporting near misses and accidents. Follow all facility human and food safety policies including SQF code, FSMA, and HACCP requirements. Work a 12-hour day shift on a 2-2-3 pattern from 6 am to 6:30 pm at the SunOpta Plant in Midlothian, TX.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have good attendance record
- Must be able to work a 12-hour shift
- Must learn and perform consistently the above essential duties
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to lift occasionally up to 75 pounds
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to travel to various SunOpta locations
- Must be able to work day shifts (6 am to 6:30 pm)
- Must be able to work a 2-2-3 pattern
- Must be able to work in a production / manufacturing environment
- Must be able to work in a clean room environment
- Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Must be able to follow facility human and food safety policies
- Must be able to use PPE
- Must be able to report near misses and accidents
- Must be able to understand SQF code
- Must be able to understand FSMA
- Must be able to understand HACCP
- Must be able to understand Food Defense
- Must be able to understand Food Safety and Quality requirements
- Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate operating difficulties
- Must be able to perform laboratory equipment calibrations
- Must be able to accurately prepare and maintain all area paperwork
- Must be able to perform microbiology testing including basic plating
- Must be able to stock lab
- Must be able to ship samples

Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years related experience in Food Science/Food Technology
- 2+ years related experience in a food or beverage production facility
