Job Summary
Operate solid waste collection trucks and related equipment on assigned residential, commercial, or special routes, ensuring efficient transport and disposal of materials. Pick up trash, brush, litter, and recycling while reading maps and route sheets to locate destinations. Perform routine vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance, and basic repairs, then maintain accurate vehicle records. Dump collected materials at designated sites and report unsafe conditions or accidents to supervisors. Complete service routes independently with minimal incidents and assist with occasional manual labor for loading and route cleanliness.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED
- A valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Thirty (30) days of experience with the operation and servicing of City of Abilene Solid Waste equipment and service router or prior equivalent experience
- Completed training on assigned equipment as verified by the assigned training on a Training Completion form
- Completion of Solid Waste Equipment Training
- Ability to lift no more than 50 pounds; carrying up to 25 pounds
