Job Summary
Greet and check in patients, answer phones, collect co-pays and insurance payments, and process paperwork in a fast-paced clinical environment. Communicate directly with patients and families to complete registration by gathering demographics, verifying insurance eligibility, and creating price estimates. Utilize computer systems to enter and verify patient data in real-time, process referrals, and authorize pre-certifications according to insurance requirements. Confirm and create scheduled appointments for patient services prior to discharge while identifying outstanding balances from previous visits. Respond to inquiries regarding routine and sensitive topics with compassion and maintain up-to-date knowledge of registration requirements across admitting, emergency, maternity, and rehabilitation units. Work onsite in Portland, ME, primarily on weekends from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, standing for long periods while using a mobile workstation.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ years of experience in a hospital, office setting, customer service setting, or phone support setting
- Influenza vaccination for the current flu season (typically August-May) or commitment to receive the influenza vaccination when available for the upcoming flu season
- Ability to work onsite in Portland, ME
- Ability to work on a Per Diem basis, irregular shifts as business requires, including weekends, holidays, etc. (primarily on weekends from 11:00am - 7:00pm)
- Must be 18 years of age or older

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with using Microsoft Office products
- Experience in a Hospital Patient Registration Department, Physician's office, OR any medical setting
- Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification
- Experience in requesting and processing financial payments
- Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial payments
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Understanding of insurance policies and procedures
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
