Job Summary

Greet guests with a smiling face, operate cash registers and electronic scanners, and process payments for cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, and gift cards. Suggestively sell items, redeem coupons, weigh produce, and bag or box merchandise while ensuring accurate pricing and proper change handling. Monitor merchandise brought to the register, resolve guest complaints with courtesy, and assist with carry-outs when feasible. Stock shelves, check price tags, maintain clean work areas, and prepare for inventory if needed. Complete daily record sheets, count drawers, and call code for cash drops to maintain proper till balance. Maintain uniform standards, check identification for legal sales, and adhere to all safety regulations. Full-time hours are 35 weeks; part-time up to 25. Valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit and Food Handlers Permit required. High school diploma or GED preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or a general education degree (GED)
  • Valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit
  • Valid Food Handlers Permit (in some cases)
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos
  • Ability to communicate with and understand coworkers and guests
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in both whole numbers and in fractions and decimals
  • Ability to calculate discounts and percentages
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday
  • Must be available 80% or more of all shifts each week
  • Must be able to stand for most of shift
  • Must be able to bend and walk occasionally
  • Must be able to use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more occasionally
  • Must be able to push and/or pull 50-100 pounds or more occasionally
  • Must have close vision
  • Must have depth perception
  • Must have the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be over the age of 21
  • Must be able to maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit

  • Must be able to call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached
  • Must be able to count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop
  • Must be able to answer questions and provide information to guests
  • Must be able to stock shelves and check price tags as needed
  • Must be able to monitor checkout station
  • Must be able to prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed

  • Must be able to kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction

  • Must be able to avoid overstocking counter with merchandise
  • Must be able to maintain proper till balance
  • Must be able to maintain a schedule made by management which may vary week to week based on the needs of the business

Desired Qualifications

  • Cashiering experience
  • Previous experience in retail or customer service
  • Familiarity with cash handling procedures
  • Knowledge of basic math for cash transactions
  • Strong communication skills, including phone etiquette
  • Bilingual skills
