Job Summary
Greet patients and callers in a congenial manner, screen requests, and direct callers to appropriate departments. Coordinate and reschedule appointments, check patients in, and verify new insurance information. Process payments and co-pays, issue receipts, and prepare daily cashier drawers. Enter patient data into electronic medical records and run reports to balance charges and track Medicare standards. Maintain confidential records and comply with safety protocols while performing related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of computer and business office procedures
- Formal training which will be indicated by one year work experience in a medical office setting
- Minimum of one year of experience handling insurance verification and eligibility in a medical office setting
- Experience working with electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Knowledge of business office procedures
- Knowledge of managed care products such as HMO's and PPO's
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information
- Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine
- Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to sort and file materials correctly and in alphabetical or numeric systems
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
