Job Summary
Greets and completes check-in procedures for arriving guests using manual and computerized methods, while facilitating daily check-outs to close accounts and prepare rooms. Calculates and posts monies, receipts, and credit charges using accurate cash handling procedures to maintain precise hotel records. Answers reservations and inquiries in person and by telephone, utilizing suggestive selling techniques to increase occupancy and revenue. Operates PBX equipment to accept calls, schedule wake-up calls, and page guests. Controls cash transactions at the front desk and maintains complete responsibility for the personal bank.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- High school graduate level mathematical aptitude
- Standard cash handling procedures
- Knowledge of computerized cash register systems
- Past experience in dealing directly with the public
- General knowledge of basic customer service skills
- Fluency in oral and written English
- Ability to use tact and understanding when dealing with a variety of customer service problems, including stressful and highly emotional situations
- High level of organization
- Ability to pay attention to minute written and verbal details, particularly when performing multiple tasks
- Ability to read written communiques and monochrome computer screen
- Ability to operate computer, calculator and telephone keyboards, for cash handling and paperwork processing
- Ability to understand and follow verbal/written instructions
- Ability to work on more than one task at a time
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
- 90% of shift is standing
- Repeated bending and kneeling required while filing
- Ability to reach all areas of hotel to assist clients
- Occasional carrying and lifting of files and office items up to 25 lbs
