Job Summary
Reviewer/Editor/Certifier for DOJ Linguistic Support Services (LSS) to translate, transcribe, and interpret a broad range of legal, court, and administrative materials across various formats and subjects, maintaining accuracy, tone, and confidentiality; requires strong English and target-language editing, familiarity with CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio), ILR 4 or equivalent, U.S. residency requirements, and a valid security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English/editing skills
- Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- At least 1 year of experience with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Knowledge of English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts including slang and regionalisms
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to Government roles and missions; ability to use translation resources, monolingual references, and online materials for terminology
- Fluency in writing in native language; professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions; preserve tone and register of source materials
- Adhere to relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
