Job Summary

Inspect trucks and trailers for defects, complete daily vehicle inspection forms, and check shipping papers for proper commodity descriptions, weight, and packaging. Maneuver vehicles safely in heavy traffic or inclement weather while maintaining contact with dispatchers. Operate forklifts to move freight and load/unload trucks using cargo straps and securing equipment. Collect payment for goods and delivery charges when necessary. Report safety hazards and maintain compliance records for vehicle inspections and hazardous material manifests. This role includes a Dock to Driver training program where AMT covers all Class-A CDL training costs for employees who obtain their license. Candidates must possess a Commercial Learners Permit and pass written tests for hazardous materials and tanker endorsements.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Commercial Learners Permit from the State of Alaska
Ability to obtain a Class-A CDL from the State of Alaska
AK Class-A Commercial Learners Permit with no restrictions
Ability to obtain Medical Examiner's Certificate
Eligible for Transportation Worker Identification Credential
Ability to obtain forklift certification for operating fork trucks with lifting capacities between 3,000# and 8,000#
Must be able to work flexible hours
Must be flexible to work extended hours and adaptable to change
Must have the ability to work well under pressure and handle demanding customers' needs
Must be capable of working with little or no supervision as well as working as part of a team
Must be able to use eyes, hands and fingers to keyboard, operate phones, fax, radios, and other office machinery
Must possess close, distance, peripheral and depth perception
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Must be able to work on a warehousing dock

Must be able to read, interpret, and write documents such as bills of ladings, tariffs, delivery receipts, military documents, procedure manuals, employee and safety rules and manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and routine reports and correspondence

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Ability to read and understand wire and hydraulic schematics

Must be regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, vibration, toxic or caustic chemicals, wet, and/or humid conditions
Must occasionally work in high, precarious places
Must occasionally work in an environment with a risk of electric shock
Must be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including incremental Arctic cold conditions and extreme heat and cold
Must be able to climb or balance and stoop, kneel and/or crouch around equipment and facilities
