Job Summary
Assist with training, safety, competitions, and travel for the Whitefish Mountain Freestyle Team, primarily conducting work outdoors in the on-mountain arena with additional duties in the competitive teams' office. Effectively coach athletes, emphasizing safety, skill development, camaraderie, and fun while providing leadership and serving as a positive role model. Assist in production of freestyle events and creation/maintenance of freestyle venues, including the jump hill, while maintaining excellent relationships with coaches and all mountain departments. Ability to ski or snowboard at an advanced level, perform movement analysis, and work under varying weather conditions, often including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Coaching or instructing experience
- Compatibility with Freestyle program, athletes, parents, terrain park crew, events, and snow sports departments
- Acceptable information regarding criminal history background
- Valid driver's license approved by WSI insurance company
- Ability to ski or snowboard at an advanced level
- Ability to demonstrate some Freestyle technique to a certain level
- Ability to perform movement analysis on athletes in combination with coaching advanced level techniques
- Ability to lift items weighing 20 pounds repeatedly and up to 50 to 80 pounds occasionally
- Ability to climb stairs to access work space
- Ability to perform movement analysis on athletes in combination with coaching advanced level techniques
- Ability to ski/ride carrying equipment, such as gates, signs, etc., weighing 20 to 80 pounds
- Ability to work under varying weather conditions, often extreme in nature
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime during peak demand times
Desired Qualifications
- Higher education
- USSA/USASA Coaches License
- USSA/USASA/PSIA/AASI Coach/Instructor level I (or above) certification
- Freestyle coaching and/or teaching experience
- Freestyle jump and/or terrain park feature construction and maintenance experience
- Freestyle event production experience
- Past experience as a Freestyle Team member
- Past Freestyle Skiing/Snowboard competition experience
- some on-snow competition experience
- Knowledge of Whitefish Mountain Resort and the Flathead Valley
- Basic computer experience
