Freelance AV Installation Technician

Job Summary

Review AV design documents, execute installation plans, and operate equipment including displays, loudspeakers, control panels, microphones, lighting, and rigging. Pull, dress, and terminate AVL and networking cables while assembling racks, creating lighting looks, and aligning projectors. Inspect and troubleshoot your own work, access vendor tech support, and complete remote or on-site support calls for existing systems. Load and unload vehicles, maintain safe work areas adhering to OSHA standards, and report task status to the site lead or project manager. Perform prep work such as unboxing, firmware updates, and labeling. Most jobs are local to western PA; travel to job sites is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior A/V Install Experience
  • Ability to analyze and effectively solve problems
  • Adept communicator; can communicate technical concepts to non-technical people and technical people alike. Good at both verbal and written communication.
  • Detail-oriented: enjoys dotting 'i's' and crossing 't's
  • Aware of the 'big picture' - doesn't get lost in the details
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle adversity and challenges
  • Service and teamwork oriented; a team player who can also delegate tasks to others
  • Client-centered and focused
  • General construction, materials, and tools knowledge (entry level or better)
  • Ability to prioritize job responsibilities and handle multiple projects at one time
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, scaffolding, lift heavy items up to 50lbs, and operate power tools
  • Must be able to work in difficult positions and locations (ceilings, on ladders, lifts, etc.)
  • Must be available for travel to job sites

  • AVIXA CTS or CTS-I Certification
  • Driving company vehicles or rental trucks to and from job sites (rare but possible)
