Job Summary
Equi is seeking a Founding Engineer and Head of Applied AI to design and build software solutions across the company, focusing on AI-powered systems and customer-facing applications. Responsibilities include driving projects from ideation to execution, translating user needs into scalable applications, and establishing technical direction within the engineering team. Candidates must have over 5 years of software development experience, full-stack proficiency, and a strong understanding of data and AI-driven engineering. The role offers opportunities for significant autonomy and the potential to lead and grow a small engineering team.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in software development
- Passion for investing
- Proven track record of designing, building, deploying, operating, and maintaining complex full-stack web applications
- Strong proficiency in Typescript, Next.js, and Python
- Solid understanding of data pipeline concepts (ETL/ELT)
- Competent in AI-driven engineering workflows and building AI-powered applications
- Demonstrated ability to think critically about product strategy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Desire and ability to eventually grow and lead a small, high-performing engineering team
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience working in fintech, investment technology, or financial services
- Specific experience designing and scaling large-volume data pipelines or complex distributed systems on GCP
- Experience using containerization technologies like Docker and API middleware like GraphQL
- Familiarity with advanced data modeling techniques
- Experience with RAG systems, LLM integration, or AI agent development
